7 Questions with Service Desk Engineer Josh

1. What is your role at Fabric?
My role at Fabric is Service Desk Engineer; it’s a challenging yet rewarding role which entails various tasks that change daily. I hold responsibilities such as picking up and dealing with tickets from our clients, as well as overseeing our commissions of brand-new laptops and PCs. I begin by running alerts and checks to ensure our client’s backups have performed successfully. If this isn’t the case, I will raise an alert and either myself or one of my colleagues will pick up.
2. What brought you to Fabric, and how did you get here?
My journey at Fabric began around two and a half years ago. I had just finished an apprenticeship at a local software development company at which I oversaw the in-house IT support for 18 months. I was recommended for a position at Fabric by a former colleague, and haven’t looked back since.
3. What does an average day look like?
To describe an average day at Fabric would be as hard as guessing the length of a piece of string, two days are never the same!
Usually, I come into the office and check my diary to see what Adam (Service Delivery Manager) has lined up for me that day. After this, I would check through all of the monitoring systems to ensure none of our customers are experiencing any internet outages. Then I check our support queue to review any issues that may have been raised and look to deal with these. If we have any commissions in at the time, I will look in the commission’s spreadsheet and ensure that these are all well in hand and prepared to be sent out on their due date, and work on any of these commissions that need to be sent out.

4. What do you enjoy most about working at Fabric?
In my opinion, Fabric is a perfect place to work. The one thing that stands out is the positive attitude of all my colleagues and peers. In a fast-paced workplace such as this, it can be easy to get caught up in your workload. At Fabric, everyone will always come together and help you out.
5. What is your best Fabric memory?
There are plenty of good memories I have from my time at Fabric, I could think about all of the memories (Or lack of, if you catch my drift) from our company nights out.
I’d have to say my best memories come from our social events, team building, and Christmas do’s have given me some highlights of my working experience. Our Christmas events have everything you need to make a good night, and it gives me a chance to talk to other members of staff that I wouldn’t usually chat with on a typical day. The highlight (I use this term loosely) of these for me, must be Carl trying to teach me to dance on a packed dancefloor, I still have flashbacks to this day *Shudders*.

6. How has Fabric supported your career?
Fabric has provided me with the funds and tools to further my knowledge within the IT sector, as I mentioned earlier I joined Fabric from and Apprenticeship and Fabric gave me everything I needed to pass the CompTIA A+ exam. Now I’m on the path to complete my Office 365 exams which provide me with the knowledge to better support our clients!
Fabric has provided me the time to go and learn and revise the topics needed and then pay for my exam and give me the time out to go and do the exam! As well as paying for revision materials! I can’t go wrong!
7. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I’m a huge fan of Escape Rooms and Quizzing (Of the pub kind) to keep my brain active. I enjoy brain teasers and problem-solving.
On a lazy day, you might find me on the Sofa with Floyd (My pug) watching the football or playing FIFA getting riled up when losing.
