Internet of Things (IoT) is the shortened name for a network of physical objects. They have a UID (Unique Identifier) or IP address that are connected by the internet.

IoT gives devices the ability to transfer data across a network with other devices.

The internet has become an essential everyday tool for most. There is an ever-increasing pressure for the internet to become more stable, have wider availability and faster connection.

The internet is continually evolving. There is an ever-increasing drive and requirement for objects to take full advantage of the internet and put it’s benefits to good use.

We are now using the internet in more ways than ever and continually finding new ways to become connected. We are making more and more devices ‘smart’ to make our daily lives easier. From mobile phones, fridges, automatic shopping lists, electrical meters, and even internet tracking toothbrushes, it’s becoming harder to avoid.

Smart devices are even more prevalent with the imminent rollout of the 5G network. 5G will make mobile internet even quicker, but will also allow for more devices to be connected to a POP (post office protocol) at any given time.

Of course, for all the advantages IoT has to offer, there are also disadvantages. It’s excellent having an internet connected CCTV, so you’re able to monitor your property while away; however, what happens if more sinister people gain access to your CCTV? While most of the negatives are rare; it’s becoming a growing threat in the industry.

Love it or loathe it, IoT is here to stay.
